Author guidelines
Author Guidelines: How to Prepare a Submission
1. Overview of the Submission Process
Thank you for your interest in submitting your work to our platform. We publish visualized protocols that combine a detailed text-based protocol with a high-quality video demonstration. The goal is to enhance reproducibility, clarity, and educational impact in scientific research.
All submissions undergo a rigorous peer-review process to ensure scientific validity, clarity, and technical quality. There are no author fees (free of charge) for submission and publication.
2. Submission Components
A complete submission must include two core components:
-
A. Protocol PDF Manuscript
-
B. Video Clip Demonstration
Both components are mandatory and will be evaluated together during the peer-review process.
3. Detailed Guidelines for Each Component
A. Protocol PDF Manuscript
This document provides the detailed, written description of your method.
-
Language: All manuscripts must be submitted in English.
-
Structure: Please structure your manuscript according to the following sections:
-
Title: A concise and informative title.
-
Abstract: A brief summary (approx. 150-250 words) of the protocol, its applications, and its significance.
-
Introduction: Provide the context, the problem the protocol solves, and its advantages over existing methods.
-
Materials and Equipment:
-
List all reagents, chemicals, and their concentrations.
-
List all equipment (manufacturer and model if critical).
-
-
Step-by-Step Procedure: Provide a detailed, numbered list of every step. Include incubation times, temperatures, centrifugation speeds, etc. This should be the exact procedure shown in the video.
-
Representative Results: Include figures (e.g., microscopy images, gel electrophoresis, flow cytometry plots, graphs) that show the expected outcomes when the protocol is successfully executed. Provide brief captions for each figure.
-
Discussion: Summarize the protocol, highlight critical steps for success, and discuss potential applications and modifications.
-
References: Cite key literature as needed.
-
B. Video Clip Demonstration
The video is a visual guide to the written protocol.
-
Language: All narration and on-screen text must be in English.
-
Length: The total video length should be 10-15 minutes.
-
Content and Structure: The video should follow this logical flow:
-
Introduction (≈1-2 min): The narrator (wearing a lab coat) introduces the protocol and its importance.
-
Procedure (≈7-10 min): The core of the video. Demonstrate all critical steps.
-
Representative Results (≈2-3 min): Show the data, images, and results that confirm the protocol's success.
-
Discussion/Conclusion (≈1 min): Briefly summarize key points and applications.
-
-
Production Quality:
-
Visuals: Video must be recorded in high definition (HD). Ensure bright, even lighting and a clean, uncluttered background (e.g., a lab bench).
-
Audio: Narration must be clear, professional, and recorded in a quiet environment to minimize background noise.
-
Filming Technique:
-
Film key actions from multiple angles (overview, close-up of hands, close-up of equipment).
-
Wear a lab coat and gloves.
-
Use only clean and neat equipment.
-
-
Graphics & Text Overlays: This is highly encouraged. Use on-screen text to label:
-
Reagent names and concentrations.
-
Critical parameters (time, temperature, speed).
-
Key components of equipment.
-
Arrows or circles to highlight specific actions or areas of interest.
-
-
4. Peer-Review Process
-
Submissions that meet the basic formatting requirements will be sent for peer review.
-
Reviewers will assess both the PDF and the video for:
-
Scientific Accuracy and Robustness
-
Novelty and Utility to the research community
-
Clarity and Completeness of the written protocol
-
Technical Quality and Educational Value of the video
-
Consistency between the described procedure and the demonstrated actions.
-
5. Submission Checklist
Before submitting, please ensure you have:
-
A complete PDF Manuscript following the required structure.
-
A Video Clip (10-15 minutes) in a common format (.mp4, .mov) with high-quality audio and visuals.
-
All narration and text in the video are in English.
-
All figures and results in the PDF are clearly labeled.
-
The procedure in the PDF perfectly matches the demonstration in the video.
We look forward to receiving your submission. By sharing your detailed methods, you contribute significantly to the advancement of reproducible science.
